Participant Logistics and Preparation:
Learning and Action Circles

Dear Movement Matters Alumni:

Our commitment to creating spaces of radical creativity, focus, cross-pollination, community building, healing, and joy made us take a step a back and enhance our approach to our Learning & Action Circles. Our communities and change work are in a moment of suspension as all of us try to understand the moment we are moving through and build with fearlessness and strategy while mourning our losses. We have to understand how to accompany our leaders, how to build and engage our constituency, and how to win our campaigns while using communication tools and popular education in a new way.

To meet this moment we have created two interrelated focus areas for our LACs:
  • Focus Area 1: The Work. Reflections and practices on how to shift and deepen our organizing and movement building work of relationship building, constituency building and power building to respond to the current moment.

  • Focus Area 2: The Personal. Deepening our well-being, internal community building, and the use of arts and movement to keep us grounded and resilient in the face of the challenges posed by our work.

We created Focus Area 2 with the recognition that our personal well-being and the strength of our change work are interconnected especially in this moment of crisis and pandemic. We led our first online Learning & Action Circle with this "personal" focus area on the first weekend of April. We are thankful to everyone that attended this virtual session for their feedback and support as we developed our online systems and capacity.

Lastly, given the current needs around virtual organizing, we will also be emphasizing the development of media and communications tools and tactics in our LACs. In addition, we have made time in our schedules for "one-on-one" consults around media development. If you would like to schedule some time with us, simply connect with us.

We appreciate your support with our process. We will announce the rest of our 2020 LACs in June. We will do our best to support you and your learning; we are here for you. Connect with us if you have any questions.

We are committed to providing each of you with tailored support. To achieve this we have a limit of 16 participants per session (except when noted). Please register early to ensure that there is space available.

Whenever possible, we also incorporate additional time for healing and wellness practices. Using ceremony, acupuncture, somatic movement, expressive arts, meditation, and other holistic modalities, participants have the opportunity to learn, harmonize, and restore in community.
