Movement Matters played a such a critical role in the DC Cancel Rent Coalition and the broader movement for housing justice. They provided key strategic guidance that challenged the unjust commodified housing system and made space for collective decision-making. Movement Matters builds power, capacity, and community in all the work they do.

Movement Matters’ work to support and build local organizing and advocacy has been integral for DC organizations. Their commitment to create and strengthen spaces for collaboration has enhanced both our work and the work of numerous members within our coalition.
Movement Matters' Action Coalitions have been important in developing multi-issue spaces where Fair Budget Coalition, along with other organizations, are able to amplify actions, identify common intersectional issues, and build strategic capacity. We highly recommend them.

We all know that our issues are intersectional; that the injustice we fight stems from a common core of white supremacy, capitalism, misogyny, colonialism, and xenophobia. We also know that our work is stronger when we work together. Despite this knowledge, it can be difficult to find the spaces and resources to work across organizations. Crossing organizational cultural divides, identifying common or complementary strategies, building trust, and taking action together takes time and energy that grassroots organizations often don’t have.
Movement Matters has played an essential role in convening and resourcing groups to invest in joint work, to identify and build common actions and campaigns, and to build movement networks and ecosystems. Our role as convener and trainer brings us into deep relationships across a host of organizations and communities, allowing us to be in a unique position to bring groups together to raise up opportunities for collective work and to support this collaboration with our time and skills.
We have brought groups together to strategize about the resurgence of white supremacy and authoritarianism under the Trump administration and how to build on common days of action like May Day to create intersectional narratives and city-wide strategy. We have engaged dozens of organizations to envision and take steps toward collective voter engagement strategies. We have helped to build visionary thinking and collective action to Cancel Rent in the face of the COVID-19. These efforts have resulted in ongoing campaigns, new organizational formations and partnerships, and stronger relationships among organizers and community-based groups.

Movement Matters has been crucial in solidifying the vision and leadership of Cancel Rent and many other DC coalitions integral to the work of my organization.
They have anchored work that allowed groups to come together, strengthen partnerships and mutual commitment, and build coalitions unique in our city—ones rooted in values and strategy.
